# FSA/HSA basics for customers

Use these to answer customers at the counter, or paste them on your site. The [FSA/HSA page kit](/fsa-hsa-page) in your dashboard has the same answers ready to copy.

#### What is an FSA or HSA?

Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts let people set aside pre-tax money for health expenses. Spending from them most people save about 30 to 40%, depending on their tax rate.

#### What makes something eligible?

Some purchases are eligible on their own. Many others, like wellness services and products, become eligible when a clinician confirms they're medically necessary for the customer. That's what a Letter of Medical Necessity does.

#### What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?

A document from a licensed clinician saying a purchase is medically necessary for the customer. It's what makes an eligible purchase reimbursable. See [What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?](/what-is-lmn)

#### Do I need an FSA/HSA card?

No. Pay normally, get the letter, then file for reimbursement. See [Do customers need an FSA/HSA card?](/no-fsa-card-needed)

#### How long does it take?

A few minutes to fill out. Most letters are reviewed the same day. See [How long do letters take?](/letter-turnaround)

#### Is my health information shared with the store?

No. Stores see your name, email, and which offering you started a letter for. Health answers stay between you and the clinician.
